BBC Live 'n' Deadly - Deadly Day Out!

Mon, September 19, 2011 - 12:00:00

Jon Cranfield attended the BBC 'Deadly Day Out' at Lydiard Park, Swindon this weekend (18th September) on behalf of the British Herpetological Society. These roadshows are running around the country, aimed at giving children aged 6-12 a chance to find out more about the natural world - and trying out adventure activities – all for free. It was a roaring success with 10,000 children and their parents waiting patiently to see their heroes from the CBBC Live 'n' Deadly programme - presenters Steve Backshall and Naomi Wilkinson and a variety of exotic animals including eagle owls, crocodiles and a reticulated python.

Jon's stand was in the Nature Zone tent and gave children an opportunity to learn more about their native reptiles. Thank you to Amphibian and Reptile Conservation for supplying a smooth snake fresh from one of their Dorset reserves to display at the show. The stars of the day were the slowworms collected from St John's churchyard in Alresford. Children had a chance to handle the animals and ask lots and lots of questions! All animals were safely returned to their homes the following day.

Jon (and slowworms!) were also interviewed for the Live 'n' Deadly programme by presenter Naomi Wilkinson - watch this space for more details of when the show will air!
